The Golden Dawn

Sprengel’s establishment of the Golden Dawn temple in London led to the inclusion of women in the IsisUrania Temple and a focus on philosophical and metaphysical teachings.

Beliefs

Anna Sprengel embraced the existence of supernatural beings and the concept of souls. The Golden Dawn, following Sprengel’s lead, believed in the existence of spiritual entities beyond the mortal realm. They created a unique synthesis of Christian and Satanic elements, the belief in the afterlife, heaven and hell.

The order created rituals and practices, designed to connect with supernatural entities, with the aim of evolving their souls and attaining a higher state of consciousness. creating the origins of the Wicca.

The Golden Dawn also included nudism in its rituals with the female members of the Isis-Urania Temple to be known as “Saint Sister’s”.

Notably, this temple welcomed and embraced the participation of women, emphasizing a philosophy of “perfect equality” between genders—an uncommon practice in the prevailing societal norms of the time.

Aleister Crowley

During its early years, the Golden Dawn primarily focused on philosophical and metaphysical teachings, attracting those eager to delve into the mysteries of the universe.

As news of Anna Sprengel’s purported magical abilities reached Nicolas Flamel, he grew increasingly angry by the misuse of magic.

Flamel aiming to destroy the Golden Dawn and eliminate the use of the term “Magick“, sent his disciple Aleister Crowley to join the Golden Dawn and destroy it from within. However, Crowley fell in love with Rose Edith Kelly, a member of the Golden Dawn.

In 1904, the couple embarked on a honeymoon in Cairo, Egypt. It was during this trip that Aleister Crowley claimed to have received communication with the Aeon’s , and Flamel chosen to allow Aleister to have a chance to maybe change Magick as best he could and then Nicolas took a ship to travel in Mexico and Find his old Master Richard with the other Immortal’s.

Aleister Crowley failed to effect significant change within the Golden Dawn and in 1907 established the A∴A∴ order.

1908 – WW2

By 1908, The Golden Dawn expanded all over England, Scotland, and it began American connections. A Thoth-Hermes temple was founded in Chicago by that time.

By 1935, many temples closed their doors or went into abeyance. However, two exceptions stood out among the Stella Matutina temples: the Hermes Temple in Bristol and the Smaragdum Thallasses Temple (commonly known as Whare Ra) in Havelock North, New Zealand.

Oblivion

After World War II, the orders of the Golden Dawn was shattered, their teachings was corrupted by Nazism. The very core of Nazi ideas drew inspiration from esoteric and Wiccan beliefs, forging a twisted vision of everything the Golden Dawn stood for.

For the members of the orders that survived World War II, the atrocities committed by the nazis was shame and gult. in 1946 all the orders was ended and forgotten.

Some members chose to donate all their money and resources to Jewish communities, and later commuted suicide. A group of other members created organizations dedicated to supporting Jewish rights.

In the 1960s. Former members came together to establish the Golden Dawn order in Israel. Trying to erase the orders Nazi-inflicted past.
